Use AI to Compare Credit-Card Payoff Options

What should I pay first? Give AI a clear budget and anonymous account facts so it can help you compare your options.

Use AI for calculations and coaching

AI can organize payment dates, calculate utilization, compare interest costs and suggest questions. It cannot know the exact payoff order that will raise your particular mortgage score fastest.

Cover essentials and all minimum payments first. Then compare what an extra payment can change, using the balances actually reported on your credit reports.

Compare individual and total utilization

Utilization = reported balance ÷ credit limit × 100. FICO considers utilization on individual cards and across revolving accounts. Lower reported utilization generally helps, but no percentage guarantees points. You do not need to carry interest-bearing debt.

Example: two ways to use an extra $300
AccountBeforePay Card APay Card B
Card A · $1,000 limit$900 · 90%$600 · 60%$900 · 90%
Card B · $3,000 limit$600 · 20%$600 · 20%$300 · 10%
Total · $4,000 limit$1,500 · 37.5%$1,200 · 30%$1,200 · 30%

Both choices reduce total utilization equally. Paying Card A also reduces the most heavily utilized card. That is a scenario worth discussing, not a prediction of which choice adds more points. This example assumes no new charges, interest or other changes, and minimum payments already covered. See FICO’s explanation.

Prepare anonymous facts

Use Card A, Card B and Loan C. List reported balances, limits, APRs, minimum payments, due dates, statement closing dates and last reported dates. Mark unknowns. Include your extra-payment budget and buying timeline.

Do not upload an unedited report or share your Social Security number, birth date, address, full account numbers, report identifiers, logins or passwords with AI. Review the service’s privacy settings before sharing financial details.

Verify before you move money

  • Check the arithmetic against your statements.
  • Keep essentials and minimums separate from extra payments.
  • Ask the issuer when it reports; the due date and reporting date may differ.
  • Keep enough cash for closing costs and reserves.
  • Review collections and other negative accounts with Mike before a large payoff. Payment does not necessarily delete an account or improve every mortgage score.

Changes can affect scores after updated data is reported; payment submission alone does not update a score. Outcomes depend on the whole file and scoring model.
